Cell Group Calendar 2008 - Year View (67 KB)
They are small groups of people (6-12 adults) that meet each week in homes, usually on Sunday evenings. Children come along with their parents and attend special kids activities during the meeting. Teens (7th – 12th Grades) have their own special Cell Group.
Cell Groups' goals are fourfold:
Love: Loving God together and loving His children. ~ John 13:34-35
Learn: Learning to be fully devoted followers of Christ. ~ Matt. 11:29
Serve: Serving others in the heart and Spirit of Jesus. ~ James 2:17
Reach: Sharing the "Good News" of Jesus with others near us. ~ Matt. 28:18-20
- Fellowship: Make true friends while growing in Christ.
According to Acts 2:46, Believers were "breaking bread from house to house." Fellowship with God's people forms friendships and fulfils our God-given need for loving relationships. Christian discipleship needs are also fulfilled in small groups. In the book of Matthew, Jesus instructed us to "go therefore and make disciples of all nations..." We believe that discipleship is a result of one person modeling Christ to another, an opportunity afforded in small group settings.
- Encouragement: Be renewed and refreshed each week.
Hebrews 10:25 reminds us to not "give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another..." Cell group members demonstrate the love of God through their love and concern for one another. Members strive to genuinely support each other with total confidentiality.
- Prayer: Find peace and strength for your life.
In Philippians 4:6-7, the Apostle Paul says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Cell Groups provide an opportunity to join together in prayer for the wide range of issues that we face daily.
- Service and Outreach: Reaching out to those in need.
Service and outreach are an integral part of Cell groups. Together, we model the heart of Christ to others. In Luke 10, the Lord instructed us to "love your neighbor as yourself." Cell groups offer the personal opportunity to minister to others in their spiritual and physical needs, as well as share the gospel of Christ.
- Leadership Training: Learn to lead.
Cell Groups provide "on-the-job" training for those who desire to use their God-given gifts of leadership within the body. Through mentoring, specialized training, and team leadership, Cell groups offer the opportunity for Christians to learn to lead others into the freedom found in Jesus.
Cell Groups along with corporate worship services, are designed to follow the New Testament pattern of discipleship, fellowship, and evangelism as recorded in the book of Acts.
Acts 5:42 Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
Acts 20:20 The apostle Paul wrote... "You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house."
You are invited to become a part of Westview's Cell Group Ministry. Cell Groups are for anyone and everyone, and are always open to new people. Most Groups use the same curriculum and all follow the same basic format so that each group member will have a similar experience no matter which group they are involved in.
